Marié Digby to Release “Outside Our Heads” Single September 8

Marié Digby will release her hypnotic new single “Outside Our Heads” on September 8. Her first since December 2016’s “Venice Beach Christmas”, it’s also Digby’s first original non-holiday release since her 2014 Chimera EP.

“Outside Our Heads” is a sonic departure for Marié. Her discography to date has been summery, piano-based singer-songwriter pop ala Sara Bareilles and Ingrid Michelson, but the sound she’s embracing now is sultry, beat-driven, and downright sexy. This new track was co-written and produced by 21-year-old newcomer Alexa Melo and mixed by Grammy Award-winner Dave Schiffman (Adele, Vampire Weekend).

“Alexa and I wrote this as if it were a musical version of an abstract painting”, Digby says. “We took a bunch of different sonic elements and tried to make something pleasing to the ear that makes you want to move. It’s definitely a big step out of my usual musical comfort zone which makes it even more exciting”.

Marié Digby burst onto the scene in 2007 when the video of her acoustic cover of Rihanna’s “Umbrella” went viral on YouTube. The associated buzz led Hollywood Records to release her debut album, Unfold, and it debuted at No. 29 on the Billboard 200 Album Chart in April of 2008.

Since then, Digby has been prolific, with numerous releases showcasing a combination of lyrical chops and piano balladry. She’s sold over 400,000 albums worldwide, reaching Gold status in Asia, and garnering over 120 million YouTube views.

“Out Of Our Heads” is the first of a series of tracks Marié will release over the next six months, with soon-to-be-announced tour dates in the U.S. beginning in the spring.

Meiko & Marié Digby Announce “The Hapa Tour”

Meiko and Marié Digby announced today that they’ll embark on a string of U.S. tour dates together in February and March. Beginning in San Diego on Feb. 24, they’ll also bring “The Hapa Tour” to Costa Mesa, Hermosa Beach, Los Angeles, San Francisco (Mill Valley), Chicago (Evanston), Marshfield, WI, and Minneapolis (dates, cities, venues, and ticket links are HERE). Additional shows in the northwest and northeast will be announced soon.

A “Hapa” is a person of mixed racial heritage with partial roots in Asian and/or Pacific Islander ancestry. Meiko is one-quarter Japanese on her maternal grandmother’s side, and Marié’s mother is Japanese. The idea to put together a tour celebrating this heritage was the brainchild of Meiko: “My sister and I were the only part-Asian kids growing up in our small town in Georgia, so it was always awkward when people asked ‘what ARE you?’ I wanted to put together a little tour celebrating ‘Hapa-ness’ and to spread the word – mainly to let kids out there know it’s not weird to have parents of different ethnic backgrounds. It’s actually pretty awesome and more common than you think!”

Of being Hapa, Marié says, “It feels like being part of a tribe. In this day and age, so many of us come from mixed backgrounds. Growing up with one Japanese parent and one Irish parent was such a unique and culturally rich experience, and it’s definitely influenced me as an artist and musician.”

Sponsored by PledgeMusic and the USC Ito Center Hapa Japan Project, the tour dates will also feature up-and-coming local Hapa artists from each city as opening acts.

Both Meiko and Marié Digby will soon announce their plans to record new albums – stay tuned!
