mermaed Releases Second Single, Championed By local L.A. Radio!

Los Angeles-based Alt-Punk act mermaed is excited to announce the release of “HONEST”, the anthemic second single from their as-yet-untitled EP. The follow up to their debut single and radio favorite “IDIOT” released in August,”HONEST” is, as singer Arielle describes, “a battle cry for women that come from nothing who are having to face the inevitable struggle of just being a female in the music industry”.

Prior to its release, the song was world-premiered on two Los Angeles radio stations: KROQ and ALT 98.7.

Formed in 2017, mermaed found fast success with their debut single, “IDIOT”, immediately landing on the Apple Music ‘Breaking Rock’ playlist, while also garnering over 50,000 Spotify streams in less than one month.

KROQ played “IDIOT” six weeks in a row on their “Locals Only” show – three of which as the #1 most-requested track on the program. Other airplay support has come from major market stations including KITS San Francisco, 91X San Diego, and KWSS Phoenix (among others).

Produced by Jon Joseph (Børns, Super Whatevr) and mixed by Carlos de la Garza (Wolf Alice, Jimmy Eat World), “HONEST”’s ready-for-radio sonics are paired with poignant and topical lyrics, including lines like “it’s much safer to keep the pretty girls in order, they line ’em up like sheep to slaughter”, emphasizing the difficulties female artists have had in the male-dominated rock music world. Arielle says, “In the recent past, I’ve let myself be manipulated and warped into something I was not, am not, and never will be. Now, I’m using my music to bite back!”

Mermaed Story Continues To Develop

Unsigned Los Angeles-based four-piece mermaed is continuing to build its story – after their debut single “IDIOT” spent 3 weeks as the #1 most-requested song on KROQ Los Angeles‘ “Locals Only” show, tastemaker Alternative ALT 105.3 San Francisco picked up on the buzz and played it this past weekend. The song is in regular rotation on Triple A outlet WAPS Akron, OH, and Apple Music added it to their ‘Breaking Rock’ playlist (one of the very few unsigned acts on that list).

mermaed plays a KROQ Locals Only-presented show on October 24 at Resident in DTLA, opening for hotly-tipped Canadian band Cleopatrick (get ticket info HERE).

It was also announced that mermaed has been added to the Taco Bell ‘Feed The Beat’ Fall 2018 lineup, which will bring them additional exposure and promotional opportunities.

mermaed’s debut five-song EP is currently being mixed.

mermaed

Mermaed is an alternative punk rock band formed in 2017 championed by long time band members Arielle (vox) and Jacob (guitar). Drawing from their hard rock and pop punk influences, their collaborating has resulted in high energy rock songs with undeniable chorus hooks, massive guitar sounds, and explosive live performances. Others have described Mermaed as “the musical love child of Paramore and the Foo Fighters”.

Jacob and Arielle met in 2010 through mutual friends at a music camp they were both attending in Nashville. They quickly realized they had similar musical upbringings and influences. Arielle grew up in Ontario, Canada in the emo/pop punk scene, with influences like Fall Out Boy, Paramore, Alanis Morissette, Foo Fighters, Avril Lavigne, and Sum 41. At the same time, Jacob was living in rural Southern California practicing ’80s shred guitar and prog/hard rock songs by bands like Dream Theater, Avenged Sevenfold, Underoath, and Trivium. But Jacob also had a soft spot for pop punk and rock bands, such as Relient K, Paramore, My Chemical Romance, The Killers, and Blink-182. Once they realized their deep rapport with one another, as well as similar dreams and goals, they have been inseparable.

Throughout the years since meeting in 2010, they have been making music together under different monikers and band names, Thee Acquainted being the most notable project. They started their musical careers by uploading cover songs to YouTube, which over the course of a few years gained them over 5 million views on their covers and originals, as well as a built-in, dedicated fan base. In 2015 they stopped making cover videos to focus on writing and creating a new sound… and this was birth of Mermaed.

With this new project, Arielle and Jacob have drawn from the aggressive energy and misfit attitudes of the bands and artists that inspired and moved them in their adolescence. They have brought back a ’90s/2000s tone with modern rock production, lyrics with attitude and a mission, as well as feminine fury and passion that will launch them into the frontlines of the new punk revolution that is now in the beginning stages. They hope to come alongside the likes of Yungblud, Grandson, SWMRS, Wolf Alice and The 1975, to continue to move culture toward a world of honest self expression and of powerful action.

Since forming Mermaed in 2017, they’ve played several shows in their new home town of Los Angeles including Emo Nite, The Satellite and The Hi Hat. They are currently wrapping up an EP they made with talented producer Jon Joseph. Though it may look like they are just starting, Mermaed is an unstoppable force that is ready to go full throttle. Get on board, or get out of the way!
