mermaed Releases “Sad Boy Tears” Single

Produced by Jon Joseph (BØRNS, Jason Mraz) and mixed by Carlos de la Garza (Bad Religion, Teenage Wrist, Wolf Alice), “Sad Boy Tears” covers some intense emotional ground. “It comes from a dark place in a relationship,” singer Arielle Ackford says. “Loving a person who doesn’t love themselves, and the frustration over how their mental state impacts your own life. It’s a difficult song to release because, lyrically, it’s not coming from the most loving perspective …but it’s real.”

While the song is released today, early support has come from hometown Alt-outlet KROQ Los Angeles, who also championed mermaed’s previous two singles (their first, “Idiot”, spent three weeks as the most-requested song on the station’s “Locals Only” program and was featured on the first-ever “Locals Only” vinyl compilation). Early radio support for “Sad Boy Tears” has also come from KTCL Denver and WQRR Tuscaloosa.

mermaed has been able to parlay their local radio awareness into several packed L.A. performances earlier in the year, including a spot on the inaugural KROQ-presented “Locals Only Fest” lineup at the Teragram Ballroom.

To coincide with mermaed’s fall EP release, the band will perform on a television program called “Sounds Of The Underground”, set to air on CBS affiliates in cities including New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Denver, San Francisco and others.

Buzzbands.LA Premieres Mermaed’s “HONEST” Music Video

Tastemaker music blog Buzzbands.LA premiered today the new music video from Los Angeles-based punk-pop quartet mermaed. Have a look HERE.

Directed by Michael L. Costa, the video depicts the progressive manipulation and ultimate erasure of a band by ‘industry handlers’. Singer Arielle Ackford says, “All of the things that happen in the video have happened to us or to friends of ours, and all of these shitty things are issues we want to call out and be a voice against because we are tired of that music culture.”

mermaed are readying their debut EP, I Know You Are But What Am I? set for a mid-July independent release. They are currently available for worldwide signing, licensing, publishing, and booking.

mermaed Releases Second Single, Championed By local L.A. Radio!

Los Angeles-based Alt-Punk act mermaed is excited to announce the release of “HONEST”, the anthemic second single from their as-yet-untitled EP. The follow up to their debut single and radio favorite “IDIOT” released in August,”HONEST” is, as singer Arielle describes, “a battle cry for women that come from nothing who are having to face the inevitable struggle of just being a female in the music industry”.

Prior to its release, the song was world-premiered on two Los Angeles radio stations: KROQ and ALT 98.7.

Formed in 2017, mermaed found fast success with their debut single, “IDIOT”, immediately landing on the Apple Music ‘Breaking Rock’ playlist, while also garnering over 50,000 Spotify streams in less than one month.

KROQ played “IDIOT” six weeks in a row on their “Locals Only” show – three of which as the #1 most-requested track on the program. Other airplay support has come from major market stations including KITS San Francisco, 91X San Diego, and KWSS Phoenix (among others).

Produced by Jon Joseph (Børns, Super Whatevr) and mixed by Carlos de la Garza (Wolf Alice, Jimmy Eat World), “HONEST”’s ready-for-radio sonics are paired with poignant and topical lyrics, including lines like “it’s much safer to keep the pretty girls in order, they line ’em up like sheep to slaughter”, emphasizing the difficulties female artists have had in the male-dominated rock music world. Arielle says, “In the recent past, I’ve let myself be manipulated and warped into something I was not, am not, and never will be. Now, I’m using my music to bite back!”

Mermaed Story Continues To Develop

Unsigned Los Angeles-based four-piece mermaed is continuing to build its story – after their debut single “IDIOT” spent 3 weeks as the #1 most-requested song on KROQ Los Angeles‘ “Locals Only” show, tastemaker Alternative ALT 105.3 San Francisco picked up on the buzz and played it this past weekend. The song is in regular rotation on Triple A outlet WAPS Akron, OH, and Apple Music added it to their ‘Breaking Rock’ playlist (one of the very few unsigned acts on that list).

mermaed plays a KROQ Locals Only-presented show on October 24 at Resident in DTLA, opening for hotly-tipped Canadian band Cleopatrick (get ticket info HERE).

It was also announced that mermaed has been added to the Taco Bell ‘Feed The Beat’ Fall 2018 lineup, which will bring them additional exposure and promotional opportunities.

mermaed’s debut five-song EP is currently being mixed.
