Alexa Melo Releases Radiohead Covers LP

Alexa Melo independently released a new album today called Lotus Flower, a 7-song collection featuring re-interpretations of her favorite songs by British alt-rock stalwarts Radiohead.

The 23 year-old self-produced and played every instrument on the LP, leaving her own indelible mark on classic Radiohead tracks while nailing subtle nuances that make the group’s original recordings so special.

Lotus Flower serves as a sort-of re-introduction to Melo, the Massachusetts-born, L.A.-raised artist who released her breakout self-titled debut in 2015. While a series of West Coast concert performances in support of that album got industry tastemakers talking, and support from major market radio programmers across the country began to build, emergency surgery on her vocal chords grinded the momentum to an untimely halt. “It got to the point where, if I didn’t get a vocal cord cyst removed, there would be irreversible damage,” Alexa says. “So the timing was terrible, but it needed to get done.”

After a full year of vocal rest – pure agony to a performer as prolific as Melo – she slowly got herself back into the swing of things in 2016, recording a series of cover songs to post on YouTube. Alexa says of the sessions, “It was a good way to practice singing again. It eased me back into performing, and helped me let people know that I didn’t give up!”

Garnering over a million YouTube plays in less than a year, some of her more popular covers happened to be Radiohead songs. So, combined with three impeccably-produced studio remakes (“Lotus Flower”, Idioteque”, and “Weird Fishes/Arpeggi”), Alexa decided to release them as a collection to all other digital stores and streaming outlets. “Radiohead is one of my favorite bands of all time and one of my biggest musical inspirations,” she says. “I really hope people enjoy my takes on these songs and I hope I did them justice!”

Lotus Flower tracklist:

1. “Lotus Flower”
2. “Weird Fishes/Arpeggi”
3. “Idioteque”
4. “Creep (Live)”
5. “All I Need (Live)”
6. “Talk Show Host (Live)”
7. “Nude (Live)”

Alexa Melo Releases Marilyn Manson Remake

Just in time for Halloween, Los Angeles singer/songwriter/producer/multi-instrumentalist Alexa Melo has released a remake of Marilyn Manson‘s seminal ’90s hard rock classic “The Beautiful People.” Tastemaker metal website Loudwire.com says, “If it’s possible, Melo has given the Manson standard an even darker and more twisted sound in non-rock form as it now slinks along with a piano backing and the singer’s sexy, slithery vocal.”
