Meiko Releases Cranberries Cover

Long known for her seductively haunting voice, singer-songwriter Meiko released “Zombie” today, the first single from her upcoming covers album, Playing Favorites (Chesky Records). The timing of the first release comes as a tragic and unfortunate result of the untimely passing of The Cranberries front-woman Dolores O’Riordan on January 15th.

Meiko says, “I recorded this version about a month ago to include on a covers album I’ve been working on. Even though it’s a heavy song, I wanted to slow it down and play it a bit more delicately because I wanted the energy to match how the lyrics make me feel. I hope I’ve done it justice.”

Meiko’s “Zombie” remake has already garnered airplay on radio stations across the U.S., including KCRW and KCSN Los Angeles, WRGX New York, WRNR Baltimore, WYCE Grand Rapids, WAPS Akron, Lightning 100 Nashville, and KWGS Tulsa (among others).

Meiko Releases New Album, Confirms Pregnancy!

Meiko offers her highly-anticipated fourth full-length album entitled Moving Day today. Her first independent LP since her acclaimed 2007 self-titled debut, Moving Day follows her 2014 Fantasy/Concord release Dear You which featured the radio and VH1 favorite “Be Mine”.

Meiko also confirmed today with a photo and a blog post on her official website that today is also the due date of her first child. Read the full post here:

The appropriately-titled Moving Day comes after some major life changes for the artist – she left her record label, got married in the summer of 2015, relocated from Los Angeles to Nashville, and, while pregnant, recorded the album in her new home city with producer Joshua Grange (Sheryl Crow, k.d. lang). “The real reason I named the album Moving Day is that while recording, every time I’d press the guitar up to my belly, I’d feel the baby move. It confirmed I was carrying a little groover, and it all came together.”

Moving Day is closer sonically to Meiko’s 2007 debut than to her two follow-up albums. “I wanted to get back to my roots”, Meiko states. “(2012’s) The Bright Side was a little more poppy, and Dear You was darker and more electronic. I wanted to keep Moving Day simpler and more intimate, without so many bells and whistles.”

Of the album’s first radio single, “We All Fall Down”, Meiko says, “I wrote it for a friend whose son was diagnosed with brain cancer. It made me sad knowing there was nothing I could do to help, except write her a pretty song to make her feel better. Luckily, her son is now a happy, healthy, cancer-free fourth-grader who is loving life. It’s one of the many reasons I support St Jude Children’s Hospital, because I saw how much they helped my friend’s family in their darkest hours, asking for nothing in return.” A portion of proceeds from the PledgeMusic pre-orders of Moving Day have been donated to the charity.

“The album comes out today, and maybe the baby will too! Not exactly sure what’s in store for me, but I’m confident I’ve made a beautiful record and I’m confident I’ll have a beautiful baby.”
