Gal Musette

Gal Musette is the pseudonym of Grace Freeman, a gifted singer-songwriter whose graceful approach to melody-driven indie-folk has captivated audiences across Southern California and beyond. A musical prodigy, she began writing lyrical compositions and performing at open mics in her hometown of San Clemente, CA, at just 10 years old. At 14, inspired by The Magnetic Fields’ iconic 69 Love Songs, she recorded her own ambitious collection titled 70 Love Songs, which caught the attention of the band and earned her an opening slot on several of their U.S. tour dates.

Over the years, Gal has opened for acclaimed artists including Macy Gray, Suzanne Vega, Todd Snyder, and Donavon Frankenreiter, earning a reputation for her thoughtful songwriting and captivating live performances. Though her name references bal-musette, a French accordion-based musical style, her influences range from Joni Mitchell and Regina Spektor to Björk, Cocteau Twins, Big Thief, and The Cure.

Her debut album Backwards Lullaby was released in October 2021 to critical acclaim, featuring a vocal duet with one of her greatest inspirations, Rufus Wainwright. The album received airplay from top tastemaker radio stations like KCRW and KCSN, with its themes exploring unrequited love, personal growth, and the cyclical nature of relationships.

Currently, Gal Musette continues to write, collaborate with other artists, and regularly perform at renowned venues like Hotel Café in Los Angeles. With her evolving artistry and ever-expanding musical palette, she remains a compelling voice in the indie-folk scene.
